Charles Towne Landing SHS is pleased to
announce school group opportunities for
the 2010-11 school year. We are now
scheduling for September 2010 through
June 2011.
We invite
you and your students to visit and participate in a Discover
Carolina program at Charles Towne Landing State Historic
Site. In 1670, colonists established the first permanent
European settlement in Carolina at this site. Today, this
protected historic site interprets the story of the 17th
century settlement and the natural environment the settlers
encountered through the Animal Forest zoo. A reproduction
sailing vessel,
Adventure, helps to illustrate the importance of
trade and commerce for the growing settlement. The original
fortified town site is well preserved for archaeological
research. A reconstructed palisade, ghost structure and
other resources help bring the fortified area to life.
We
encourage you to experience the site by participating in one
of the following Discover Carolina programs. Pre-site and
post-site materials will introduce and reinforce on-site
activities and concepts. Students will be engaged by
hands-on learning activities and immersed in the resources
of the state’s birthplace.
