Lesson
Description:
This activity is designed to help the student better understand
the living conditions of a Civil War camp. The student will
experience the solider in a personal way, as period dressed
interpreters create a living history display at the camp.
The living history will include a Union and a Confederate
soldier explaining what the different accoutrements are and
their uses. The interpreters will discuss why they joined
the army, and their experiences in it. The student will be
prompted to talk about their experiences in training. At the
end of the exchange, the interpreters will discharge all of
the students from the army with reproduction discharge papers.
