Lesson Description: The
pre-visit activities are designed to get
students to think about their own lives,
home, relationships with family members,
and the artifacts that are a part of
their daily lives. These
activities will help them to understand
Redcliffe's use as a home for more than
120 years and the relationship between
the individuals living at Redcliffe.

Teacher Preparation:
Complete steps in "Plan your Discovery" and
complete the pre-site activity prior to the field trip.
Procedures:
| I. |
Have the students draw a picture and/or write a paragraph about one
of their favorite things at home. It can be an item (i.e.
television, computer, video game), a room (i.e. bedroom, garage
etc), or an activity (i.e. eating dinner, playing basketball,
walking the dog). |

These should be shared with their classmates, and if possible,
brought with them to Redcliffe. |

The guided tour will focus on specific items, rooms and activities
at Redcliffe and compare the changing lifestyles between the
mid-19th century and the present. |

II. |
Show a picture of Redcliffe (overhead
projector or other) and ask students if this is like their home.
Discuss the fact that the historic site which they are going to
visit was someone's home for 120 years. |
| III. |
Show photographs of Hammond family members and other individuals
that worked and lived at Redcliffe, and ask the students to write a
few sentences describing what they think the pictures say about the
people who live at Redcliffe. |
