Procedures:
|
1. |
Turn your students into ants! Rub an onion on
several trees in your schoolyard, creating a scent trail.
|
|
2. |
Hide a snack or special treat at the end of your
scent trail. |
|
3. |
Have your students follow the scent trail using only
their sense of smell. Can they find the snack at the end of the
trail? |
|
4. |
Remind your students if they were ants, they would
smell not with their noses but with their antennae. Ants can’t talk
so they use special signals to tell other members of their colony
where to find food. |
|
5. |
Can your students come up with a way to communicate
this information without using words? |
