Insectigations - Pre-site Activities/Teacher Led

South Carolina State Standards Addressed:

2-1.1 Use tools (including thermometers, rain gauges, balances, and measuring cups) safely, accurately, and appropriately, when gathering specific data in customary (English) and metric units of measurement.
2-2.2 Classify animals (including mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, and insects) according to their physical characteristics.

Material/Equipment/Resources:

Go Metamorphosis - a card game designed by the Minnesota Children's Museum.  This variation of Go Fish teaches both complete and incomplete metamorphosis utilizing wonderful illustrations of dragonflies, grasshoppers, butterflies, and more! (Available through our Interpretive Resource Library, call 788-8332 or email showe@scprt.com for information)

Procedures:

1. Metamorphosis can help your students practice sequencing!  Collect magazine pictures of insects in various stages.  Ranger Rick magazines are a great source!  Students must place the pictures in the proper order. 
2. Play Go Metamorphosis (optional).
