Lesson Description:
Students will review, apply and analyze the data and information
from the on-site visit and use those discoveries to solidify
understanding of concepts of habitat, adaptations, erosion
and accretion.
Procedures:
|
1. |
Have
students move into their on-site groups and begin comparing their
different quadrat lists. |
|
2. |
In
groups, students will be compiling a complete habitat list
accumulated from the different quadrat examinations. |
|
3. |
Once the
students have a complete list, complete a diagram showing the shared
species of each habitat and discuss reasons why certain species are
found in certain habitats and not in others. |
|
4. |
In
groups, have students brainstorm erosion defense measures and have
students categorize possible pros and cons of each method. |
|
5. |
Have
students answer follow-up question sheet that focuses on habitat and
niche of plant and animal life and erosion and accretion causes and
results. |
Extension
Ideas:
|
1. |
Have students write a short essay creating their own solution
to erosion problems on Hunting Island. |
|
2. |
Have
students debate the issues related to barrier islands.
